What can our students do for your company?

Students can complete a substantial project for your organization over the practicum period. We suggest providing a starting project, but as the placement goes on there may be other duties or projects the student is asked to complete as well. Providing a central project creates structure for the internship and gives the student (and company) a tangible goal.

Possible projects could be:

• Designing the blueprint for your system. (Including a Data Model (ERD)).
• Building a database to match the design that is determined by analyzing your processes and needs through interviews.
• Creating tables (including constraints, views, sequences etc.),
• Loading the data including the use of SQL*Loader, Datapump and external tables.
• Creating representative users with proper privileges, quota etc.
• Configuring auditing and reporting.
• Defining a solid Backup & Recovery Plan including hands on testing
• Networking your databases.
• Database tuning to keep it at an optimal level of performance.

At the time of placements students have skills in Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, database architecture and administration, Oracle network administration, backup and recovery, Oracle performance tuning, data warehousing and data mining, Windows server and Linux operating systems.

What Do We Ask of You As A Virtual Practicum Employer?

• Use reasonable efforts to enable the student to receive broad exposure to the business carried on at your company.
• Require the student to perform only such tasks as reasonably fall within the scope of the student's training and abilities.
• Sign a straightforward practicum employment agreement outlining the above-mentioned responsibilities.
• Complete a brief "Employer Work Term Evaluation Report" for the student at the end of the work experience term.
